Jennifer Gonzales, sixteen, eight months pregnant.

Jennifer My name is Jennifer Gonzales. I am sixteen and I am eight months pregnant.

Amanda How did you feel when you first found out you were pregnant?

Jennifer Um, I wasn’t going to tell my mom. I was scared to tell my mom.

Amanda That was the first thing you thought?

Jennifer Yeah. I didn’t know what she was going to say.

Amanda And how did your baby daddy react?

Jennifer He was happy that I was having his baby.

Amanda How did that make you feel?

Jennifer It made me fell a little bit more comfortable. But, I still had to tell my mom.

Amanda And how did she react when you told her?

Jennifer She was just surprised, but she knew it was bound to happen.

My babies father is 21 years old. Um, he supports me a lot in all my decisions. He’s good. He buys the baby stuff a lot now so I know he will be a good father.

Amanda Do you want to talk about your babies father? It’s up to you.

Jennifer My babies father is 21 years old. Um, he supports me a lot in all my decisions. He’s good. He buys the baby stuff a lot now so I know he will be a good father.

Amanda How long had the two of you been together before you found out?

Jennifer A year.

Amanda How have your friends reacted?

Jennifer Everybody was happy because out of all my friends, I was the only one having a boy.

Amanda You have other friends who also have children?

Jennifer Yes, all my friends have children but two of them.

Amanda Are most of your friends your age or older?

Jennifer A year or two older.

Amanda Where did you grow up and what was your childhood like?

Jennifer I grew up in Chelsea and I always have been a babysitter to my mother. I always got everything that I wanted. And then I started getting locked up a lot. Hanging out in the streets. And now the baby is going to change me all around.

Amanda What kinds of things would you get locked up for?

Jennifer A’s and B’s. Assaults and battery’s on people.

Amanda Do you feel like since you have become pregnant it has changed you?

Jennifer Yeah, it’s slowed me down a lot.

Amanda What are the things that you are most looking forward to and what are the things that you are most nervous about?

Jennifer I want to be able to change his diaper, and feed him, and bathe him, and all that. But I’m scared because he’s going to be so little and fragile.
